The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.
Psalms 34: 18
Our CCA community lost two very dear friends recently. Dr. Myra Baughman went peacefully into the arms of our Savior just before Thanksgiving on Monday, November 25. Myra served on the first Board of Directors for Mount Rainier Lutheran High School and remained connected throughout the years as a staff advisor and tutor for students, even after we rebranded and moved the high school to our current campus. Her grandchildren attended Concordia and Mount Rainier, and her great-grandchildren are at CCA currently. Myra was a wise friend and valued mentor to me over the years. Her Celebration of Life will be held at Good Shepherd on Saturday, December 14, at 1:30 p.m.
Steve Pelissier passed away suddenly on Thanksgiving Day. His children attended Concordia and Mount Rainier, and Steve remained connected with our school through sports. A past high school athletic director and girls basketball coach, he coached our high school girls last year and was planning to coach again this year before God called him home. Steve’s sons are still involved with CCA through basketball: oldest son Marshall is our current boys coach and his younger brother Mitchell coaches privately in our gym. Steve touched many students’ lives through coaching and mentoring. His Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, December 16, at 4 p.m.
We are closing our campus at 2 p.m. on December 16 to allow our staff to attend on time. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in picking up students promptly for this service.
Myra and Steve will be dearly missed by so many people, but their legacies live on. We praise and thank God for the time we had with them. They were both wonderful people of great faith, and we celebrate knowing exactly where they are!

On Tuesday, December 3, our K-8 Student Council representatives “Shopped with a Cop” to get Christmas presents for families in need. Each of our 14 Student Council representatives got to pick out a present for a young person whose tag was selected from the Giving Tree at Our Savior Lutheran Church. This was an exciting time to partner with CCA parent, Officer Dave from the Tacoma Police Department, and Cassie from Walmart on 19th and Union. Their enthusiasm was contagious. This group was surprised to receive a $100 gift card from Mary, the manager of Walmart! In the spirit of giving and gratitude for all our blessings, the Student Council suggested we do a coat drive during November. Giving Freedom River Outreach 120 coats donated by CCA students and families was an honor! Pastor Dennis Stewart and his helper, Dan, brought the Freedom River Outreach van to fill with bags before the Student Council went shopping. He gave them a huge thank you and encouraged our students to continue to share Jesus’ love with others. To wrap up the night, students enjoyed eating pizza while they wrapped the presents they had purchased. Mrs. Rush and Miss Kamrath said you could feel the joy in the room as they worked together listening to Christmas music. Thanks to all who helped make this trip and coat drive such a success!
Our Empty Bowl Project raised a whopping $1074.46 for the Emergency Food Network! Thanks to all who helped make this effort so successful!
