Rick Winterstein

High School Teacher -Latin, Calculus, Physics


Born in Tacoma, Mr. Winterstein (M.S.) returned to the Northwest in 2001 after many years living in California. He has been a teacher at Concordia Christian Academy since its opening in 2003 (then, MRLHS.) With a diverse formal education ranging from aeronautical science to medieval studies, he currently teaches physics, calculus, and Latin, and at times has provided students with an introduction to Greek.

He is also listed as an adjunct with Concordia University, Portland, for CCA’s dual enrollment program in calculus. He serves as the faculty sponsor for the Concordia Christian Academy's chapter of the Junior Classical League and co-ordinates several national exams at CCA, including the National Latin Exam and the American Mathematics Competition.

In 2005, Mr. Winterstein was the grateful recipient of an Amy High Scholarship for summer study of Latin in Rome in Father Reginald Foster’s legendary Aestiva Latinitas Romae program. He has also toured historical sites in Turkey and Spain. He is an avid biker and enjoys singing.

Mr. Winterstein worships at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Lakewood. He is a member of the American Classical League and the American Modeling Teachers Association, and he currently serves in a leadership position with the WA/BC Junior Classical League.
