Summit Learning Platform

The Summit Learning Platform is an educational experience and online curriculum that is used beginning in 6th grade. We partner with the Summit Learning Platform because we believe it creates the best learning environment for each student. The platform focuses on 3 key outcomes: Cognitive Skills, Content Knowledge, and Habits of Success. These three outcomes are based on what learning science tells us about how students learn best and are the focus of our learning in grades 6-12.

COGNITIVE SKILLS

These skills are essential to effective learning, encompassing all of the facets of critical thinking including inquiry, analysis and synthesis, composing and writing, and speaking and listening.

THE CONTENT RESOURCES

Students need a broad Content Knowledgebase in order to put Cognitive Skills to work. The resources available to students on the Summit platform are organized into easily accessible components that allow students to access and master content as they seek to fulfill their learning goals, all at a pace that suits each one individually.

HABITS OF SUCCESS

These are social and emotional skills (resilience, social awareness, a sense of belonging, a sense of purpose) that support a student’s academic and non-academic pursuits. Research involving the science of learning has shown that when students develop these habits well, their learning is much more effective. This is what drives student motivation and ownership.

The classroom experience in the learning platform is based on three methodologies that help drive these outcomes. The methodologies are intentionally integrated into the school day.

Teachers guide instruction and work with students in ways that serve each student best.

Mentor Time

Allows students to work with their teacher in order to set long-and short-term goals and receive feedback on their progress.

Personalized Learning Time

Gives students dedicated time to make their way through a range of resources, choosing how they want to learn content in line with their personal needs and preferences; students are empowered to set goals and deeply understand content by consuming it in a way that is best for them through reading, videos, and slides. Teachers guide instruction and work with students in ways that serve each student best.

Project Time

Encourages students to apply the content they’ve learned to rich, real-world projects, developing essential and transferable lifelong skills.
