Faculty Spotlight

Subjects you teach: I teach all English and Literature classes and Church History/Christian Ethics. I will teach Film Production and rock climbing for J Term.

Favorite thing about teaching high school students: My favorite thing about teaching high school students is the opportunity to build relationships with young men and women who will one day change the world. I love a good idea, it is one of my favorite things. I am consistently amazed at how our CCA students can synthesize a historically good idea into their own context and return it back to me in a manner so far outside of my personal perspective. I love watching the moment of discovery when a new concept becomes a reality for them...wait, favorite thing singular right?...

Besides teaching, what are you involved in at MRLHS i.e. sports, activities:I serve on the Curriculum Committee here at CCA and I look forward to producing videos for our school which tell the story of what is so great about being a Hawk.

Hobbies/Interests:I love to camp, bike, garden and cook with my family. I also love to watch and produce films. Two of my favorite film directors are Andrei Tarkovsky & Terrence Malick.

Interesting fact about you that faculty/students may not know: Before I entered the teaching profession, I was an audio engineer in the film industry. From 2012 through 2013, I completed a successful Kickstarter campaign to produce a documentary on our high school solar car team which traveled to Ft. Worth, Texas for the 2012 Solar Car Challenge. The short documentary "Helio Centric" was selected to play in the 2013 BendFilm festival. Awards or Recognitions earned: I completed my Master of Science in Education degree this past spring (2015) through Eastern Oregon University. I am a member of the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE).
