CCA Bulletin 5.5.24

Principal's Corner

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. Genesis 1:1

Dear Parents,

Last week, we celebrated our students’ Science Week projects. God smiled on our festivities with a beautiful day and plenty of sunshine. Our 4th-8th grade classes participated in a number of activities, some of which have become a tradition at CCA – boats, rockets, popsicle stick structures, volcanoes, and the famous egg drop.

Fourth grade began a new tradition this year. Using parts from our stem cart with other creative art supplies, the students crafted boats that could propel through water. They tested them in several small wading pools, and many worked quite well!

Fifth graders built and painted rockets, then launched them on the field while other classes looked on. It’s always a challenge to spot their landing sites!

Sixth graders made popsicle structures that they hoped would survive a battery of tests, including being dropped and having books piled high on them. Our students held their breath during each test in the hope that their structure would survive, and many did!

Seventh grade set up volcanoes that erupted on cue with some help from soda and Mentos. I am always amazed at the detail given to these creations, and it’s great fun to see them erupt.

Eighth graders designed cushioned homes for a single raw egg which was then dropped from our gymnasium roof. It’s great to see the creativity, and a few actually survived!

You will see from the pictures below that a good time was had by all!

Blessings on your week,

It’s Almost Here and You’re Invited!

The CCA staff is about to welcome TWO new babies in June! Both teacher Jessica Cofield, and Director of Advancement Samantha Hanson are expecting brand new bundles of joy! We’re excited to celebrate them with a joint baby shower this coming Friday, May 10, in the CCA gym. Check out the invitation for more details & information here.

BE SURE TO LET US KNOW YOU’RE COMING!

The Jog-A-Thon is coming this Wednesday!

The Jog-A-Thon provides funds to support our Fine Arts programs at Concordia. These programs include art and music classes for kindergarten through 5th grades, electives for 6th through 8th grades (including art, band, marimbas, choir, and drama), and other performing arts opportunities.

We are 37% of the way to our goal of $7740. Please keep your pledges coming!

There are several ways to sponsor a student:

  • Pledge per lap. We will collect pledges through Friday, May 17, for those wanting to pledge per lap.

Meal Train Request

On Sunday, April 14, CCA Cheer Coach Monica Flores suffered a major injury while practicing a brand-new stunt with her adult cheerleading team. Monica was thrown in the air and not caught properly, resulting in a broken tibia and bones above the ankle. She will undergo surgery this week.

Monica will use a knee scooter and have regular physical therapy to walk again in the coming months. Needless to say, the family can use some help while Monica is immobilized.

Concordia mom Heather J. has put together a Meal Train Sign-Up to support the family so Monica’s husband can focus on care of their girls, students Carolina and Nayeli, and her recovery over the next few weeks. Please consider supporting the family by donating a favorite nutritious meal, Door-Dash/Uber gift card, or restaurant gift card.

Please pray for our CCA family during this difficult and life-changing time.
