CCA Bulletin 5.18.25

Principal's Corner

The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; he knows those who take refuge in him.

Nahum 1:7

Dear Parents,

“But EVERYONE plays this game. Why can’t I?”

“All my friends use these apps, and nothing bad has happened to them!”

“I’m the only one without a smartphone.”

Do any of these arguments sound familiar to you? All kids complain about what they are not allowed to have or do, and they almost always compare themselves to their friends when they make their case. The comparison may or may not be accurate. The most significant difference between the arguments children used years ago and those today has to do with the content and tech devices they want to access.

Safety comes from knowing the risks versus rewards and researching what can reasonably be allowed. The arguments are real, and most kids feel like they will be left out if they aren’t involved in what appears to be the norm. As parents, we can arm ourselves with the facts and then determine what is appropriate.

Protect Young Eyes offers comprehensive reviews of every popular app and game available so you can make informed decisions.

Are you on the fence when it comes to buying your child a smartphone, or do you need more information on restricting a phone your child already has?

Check out the info on the Wait Until 8th website. The video on their “Our Story” page is powerful, and the rest of the website is just as valuable.

Our kids had a great time at the Jog-A-Thon last Wednesday.

The weather was perfect, and Mr. Winterstein and some of our high schoolers even got in on the action! We will keep the donation link available until Friday. Thanks for your support!

We would like to thank Kathy Turner for her efforts in organizing the event.

Alumnus Mitch Pelissier is once again offering basketball training for students this summer. He is fantastic with youth, and we are proud to call him a member of our CCA family! See his flyer below.

Meet our new 2025-26 Athletic Director!

Evan Arborgast comes to us from Sound Christian Academy, where he served as assistant athletic director. He is a WIAA-certified athletic director with experience in all aspects of the position. Evan lives and breathes sports and is an avid Seattle Mariners fan. He enjoys watching high school sports, working with kids of all ages, and is well-versed in technology. He is excited to join the CCA team!

We thank Adrian Herrera for his time as our current athletic director at CCA. He is leaving at the end of the school year to pursue ministry with his dad, who is planting a church in University Place. We pray for this new opportunity to further God’s Kingdom.

Welcome Back, Mr. Shannon!

We are excited to welcome Ed Shannon back as a part-time teacher in the fall. Ed served the Puyallup community for 38 years before retiring as the Corrections Lieutenant and a command staff member in the Puyallup Police Department. He taught PE and Health for our middle and high schools last year, then took this school year to complete his Master of Theology degree.

Ed will return to teach high school PE, Health, and a religion course in the fall. He is a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, where he serves on the Board of Directors. Ed plans to work with Pastor Joel Schuldheisz to hone our Lutheran curriculum for high schoolers.

We are thrilled to have Mr. Shannon return to CCA!

Attention Parents!

If you need financial aid for tuition next year, NOW is the time to apply. Applications go through FACTS to determine an income vs. expenditure ratio to qualify for aid. Our resources are limited, so applying early is key to receiving assistance.
