Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old, he will not depart from it.
Proverbs 22:6
Dear Families,
At Concordia, we understand that exposing students to various activities builds a well-rounded individual. This is why we have co-curricular offerings in sports, fine arts, and clubs. A good school experience is much more than academics, and we encourage our students to participate in other activities. This builds independence and helps them find their passion areas as they try new things. When students work together as part of a team, they learn cooperation and humility.
Many life opportunities provide character development. At home, I advocate for children to participate in household chores. Years ago, it was necessary to have everyone in the family participate in chores to get all the work done. Now, as modern conveniences have been introduced and children have become busier with outside activities, chores have become less integral for many families. However, this does not diminish the importance of having kids involved in family chores.
Household chores have many benefits for children. When kids help the family with everyday chores, they learn time management skills, develop organizational skills, accept responsibility, accomplish tasks, balance work and play, and create a solid foundation for functioning independently.
Most importantly, they begin to understand what it is to contribute to something beyond themselves. Helping the family builds self-esteem in the best possible way because your children are part of a whole. This provides a foundation for learning to serve others in meaningful ways.
At a time when we all seem to be going in too many directions, I encourage you to create a chore chart and work together as a family unit to accomplish tasks. Then, celebrate a job well done and enjoy some well-earned time together!

The Glodowskis are cherished members of our Concordia family. Karena has been ill and unable to work, and she recently lost her mom. We can help them in this time of need by supplying gift cards to local restaurants so they don’t have to think about meals for a while. You can bring gift cards to school during our school hours or donate online. Thank you for helping this great family!
