Principal's Corner

As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace. 1 Peter 4:10

Dear Parents,

We are blessed to have teachers with amazing gifts and talents, and they gladly share them with their students! Our art department spans grades 6-12, led by Cindy Bowers in middle school and Kurt Scearce in high school. Over the years, I have witnessed first-hand the beautiful products that come from our students as these teachers work them though basic art design and into more advanced concepts.

CCA is blessed beyond measure to have these people who so willingly give of their time on behalf of our school and to the glory of God. Our students respond to this love and commitment with inspiration in the art pieces they create. Our program allows students to begin art study in elementary school, led by our talented team of K-5 teachers. When they reach middle school, they are encouraged to follow their interests in elective classes, and our budding art students thrive in an environment that allows them to explore, experiment, and create.

In middle school during the first semester, our students learned all about printmaking and abstract designs.

Our high school drawing students recently completed a group grid drawing of Martin Luther King, Jr. for the holiday celebrating his accomplishments. A black and white portrait of MLK was selected and cut into 1/2 inch squares. These squares were numbered on the back and given to the students one at a time along with a 5 inch square of drawing paper. Using charcoal, the students had to transfer the visual information from the small square to their paper. Not seeing the squares surrounding their own, they needed to concentrate on proportion, tone, and alignment. After numbering the back of their drawn square with the corresponding number, they received another square and continued until all the squares were completed. The finished squares were then arranged by their numbers and taped together to complete the drawing.

Take a look below to see for yourselves what is possible at all levels.

In Christ,
