For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
Ephesians 2: 8-9
In a letter dated July 8, 1530, Luther interprets his seal:
First, there is a black cross in a heart that remains its natural color. This is to remind me that it is faith in the Crucified One that saves us. Anyone who believes from the heart will be justified (Romans 10:10). It is a black cross, which mortifies and causes pain, but it leaves the heart its natural color. It doesn’t destroy nature, that is to say, it does not kill us but keeps us alive, for the just shall live by faith in the Crucified One (Romans 1:17). The heart should stand in the middle of a white rose. This is to show that faith gives joy, comfort, and peace—it puts the believer into a white, joyous rose. Faith does not give peace and joy like the world gives (John 14:27). This is why the rose must be white, not red. White is the color of the spirits and angels (cf. Matthew 28:3; John 20:12). This rose should stand in a sky-blue field, symbolizing that a joyful spirit and faith is a beginning of heavenly, future joy, which begins now, but is grasped in hope, not yet fully revealed. Around the field of blue is a golden ring to symbolize that blessedness in heaven lasts forever and has no end. Heavenly blessedness is exquisite, beyond all joy and better than any possessions, just as gold is the most valuable and precious metal.
Lutheran theology has a nice balance between law and gospel. In education, this balance shows itself when our kids make mistakes. We lead with grace in the restorative conversations we have, there is forgiveness where there is repentance, and the law provides a curb to guide behavior and show us our sin when needed.
We are a place for all people regardless of faith or ethnic background, a welcoming community for those who seek a safe, caring environment for their children. In today’s world, where so much remains uncertain, there is peace in knowing who we are and whose we are.

Last Tuesday evening, our newest chapter members were inducted into the NHS. Pictured below are Abygael, Avi, Firomsa, Peniel, Cody (ill that evening), Meng, and Nathan.
Students in grades 10–12 who earn a cumulative 3.5 GPA or higher are eligible to be considered for membership. These academically eligible candidates are then evaluated based on the remaining criteria for membership in the National Honor Society. They are:
Also pictured are our current NHS officers (center left to right): Aline, Noah, John, and previously inducted member Sam. Also previously inducted but not pictured: Lizzie.
We are proud of these students and all they represent as members of our NHS!

On Wednesday, November 13, you are invited to attend our worship service as we honor our military families at the All-School Chapel beginning at 8:40 a.m. We know that when a person serves, their entire family serves! Please join us for a special chapel service dedicated to all those who serve in the military so that America can remain a free country.
Last Thursday we had lots of special activities. Grades K-2 walked our campus in a candy parade, grades 3-8 went bowling and played putt-putt at Tower Lanes, and our high schoolers had a pumpkin carving contest. They had a great time!
One of our CCA parents, Nicollette Roe, is hosting the Tacoma Children’s Business Fair, an event designed to inspire and empower young entrepreneurs. At this one-day event, children ages 5-16 have the opportunity to launch their business ventures for a day and get real-world experience being a CEO / Executive Director / Business Owner or Operator. This event is entirely youth led.
CCA fifth-grader Cora will be there launching her “Zero Waste Trace” nonprofit where she organizes neighborhood clean-ups and showcases what that work entails. She will teach shoppers at her booth how to keep the earth clean and allow them to purchase her services to organize a clean-up in their neighborhood for just the cost of supplies (garbage bags and a dump-run fee).
The Children’s Business Fair provides students the opportunity to create and showcase their own businesses, developing valuable entrepreneur skills, money-management skills, communication skills, and receiving a boost of confidence in the process!
The fair is scheduled for Saturday, November 16, at the Waterfront Market at Ruston, 12-3pm. Click the link or scan the QR code above for more info.
