For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. 1 Corinthians 12:12
Dear Families,
CCA enjoys a variety of sports that run all year long. In the fall, we have middle school and high school volleyball and soccer. In the winter, we enjoy basketball and cheer. In the spring, we participate in track and high school baseball.
All of these sports are coached by current or past parents, friends of our school community, alumni, and teachers. They are paid a very modest stipend, but the reality is that most of their time is volunteered. Our coaches spend HOURS in practices and games. They transport our players to and from away games and supervise students until the last one goes home. Their seasons are intense because so many games are played in just a few weeks during each season. Our coaches undoubtedly enjoy the sports they coach, but the primary reason they do it is twofold. They love our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and they love our students.
Any coach will tell you that athletics builds a number of skills that are critical to life. Yes, the skills needed to play the games are specific, but the larger skills are life skills. Learning how to cooperate as part of a team permeates everything we do in life. Learning how to get along in the face of adversity is also a much-needed life skill. Yes, the joy of victory is a wonderful feeling, but a game well-played and lost is just as valuable. We encourage our students to get involved in sports because there is nothing like being a valued part of a team. As scripture tells us, we are all one body with many parts, and each needs the other in important ways.
Our community is special because of the relationships we enjoy with each other, and the commitment that our coaches make to our students is significant. Please join me in thanking our current fall coaches: Rob Sullivan, Anna Faker, Don Faker, Bonnie Jean Huset, Clay Conklin, Jackson Downey, Jessica Cofield, Claire Hall, Randy Doyle, and Heather James. As our school year progresses, anytime you see one of our coaches, please thank them for the hours they put in on behalf of our students and school. We would not have the well-rounded program we have without them!
In Christ,
